Volunteer

Give a few hours. Change what is possible.

Our programmes are carried by volunteers — musicians, media people, students, retirees — who give time they did not know they had.

Before you apply

What volunteering here actually looks like.

Honest expectations, so that both you and the people we serve get what they need.

No experience needed, mostly

Music mentors and outreach volunteers complete a short briefing. Recycling educators complete CLM’s training before teaching anyone else.

We ask for consistency

Children notice when you miss a week. We would rather you commit to something small and keep it than something large you drop.

You will not be dropped in

Every volunteer is paired with a team lead, briefed before the first day, and never sent alone into a community.

Open roles

Six ways to be useful.

Pick the one that fits your life. If you are unsure, choose the role closest to what you already enjoy.

Questions

The things people usually ask.

If yours is not here, just send it — we would rather answer than guess.

Do I need qualifications?

Not for most roles. Creative mentors and programme volunteers complete a short briefing before working with young people.

How much time does it take?

Roles range from occasional event days to three or four hours a week. Each listing states the expected commitment, and we would rather you commit to something small and keep it.

Where do volunteers serve?

Most activity is in Accra and Tema, with Cross Sessions in Bawku when scheduled. Tell us where you are based and we will be honest about what is practical.

Is there training?

Yes. Every volunteer is briefed before their first programme day, and anyone working directly with young people completes our safeguarding briefing.

Can under-18s volunteer?

Volunteers must be 18 or older. Younger people can take part through a school or family service day with a guardian present — write to us and we will arrange it.

Not able to volunteer?

Giving keeps the instruments tuned and the sessions on the road.

A monthly gift is the most useful kind of support we receive — it lets us plan a season of sessions instead of a single afternoon.
